Today, we want to share some of our best tips for managing dental anxiety to ensure you get the quality dental care you deserve.
1. Let Us Know!
If you or a loved one experience feelings of nervousness or dread at the thought of going to the dentist, let our team know. We understand that dental anxiety is common and we are experienced in working with folks who have it. When you schedule your first appointment, we will be happy to talk you through exactly what to expect during your visit. Arrive early to your appointment and we can give you a tour to help you familiarize yourself with our office.
2. Use the Buddy System
Consider bringing a loved one along to act as your support system during your appointment. Sometimes, having someone you trust in the room is enough to ease any feelings of unease.
3. Try to Relax
Many of our patients have had success with certain relaxation breathing techniques. Others swear by meditation as a great way to manage the effects of anxiety.
4. Distractions Help
If you think it will help, you may want to bring headphones to your next visit in order to listen to some music, a podcast, or an audio book during your next visit. Sometimes, this distraction is all you need to ease your anxiety.
If you do experience dental anxiety, don’t let it prevent you from getting regular dental care. After all, the best way to prevent many more serious dental conditions is through preventive care: a good at-home oral hygiene routine and regular professional cleanings and exams.
