Every year, the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) holds a National Emergency Services (EMS) Week. This year’s theme is “Stronger Together”, a motto we all should take to heart. From May 21st – May 25th, each day has a different focus, as follows:
- Monday – Education
- Tuesday – Safety
- Wednesday* – Emergency Medical Services for Children Day
- Thursday – Save-A-Life (CPR and Stop the Bleed)
- Friday – EMS Recognition Day
*Wednesday’s EMS for Children Day is of particular importance to Dr. Giovannini and all of us here at Michael Giovannini DDS.
Dental Emergencies for Children: What to Do
Knocked Out Tooth
Whether your child has knocked out a permanent adult tooth or even a baby tooth, it’s important to call our office ASAP. As noted by the American Dental Association (ADA), if your child loses a baby tooth before it was ready to come out space maintainers may be required to make sure that there is enough space in his or her mouth for all of the permanent teeth.
If your child has a toothache, your parental instincts will kick into overdrive, but if you know how to handle the situation, you can make it less stressful for both of you.
- The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) advises rinsing your child’s mouth with warm water (not hot or cold).
- Apply a cold compress to the outside of the child’s cheek.
- Give us a call so we can see you soon and get to the bottom of the issue.
Benefits of a Family Dental Practice
We pride ourselves on being a family dental practice. We are here to meet all your family’s oral health needs, whether that be care after a dental emergency or simply a regular teeth cleaning and checkup. While the convenience of taking the whole family to see the same dentist may be a major motivator in your choice, there are also important benefits corollary to that!
Dr. Giovannini will monitor your children’s growth and development to catch dental issues before they become major problems.
Many dental issues can run in the family! (Think gum disease and tooth decay.) When Dr. Giovannini treats the whole family, he can provide extra care and attention to any potentially inherited conditions. With early detection, we can limit the condition, and in some cases, even reverse it.
Healthy Habits Start Early
When you take your whole family in for regular dental appointments, you help to teach them the importance of dental health starting at a young age. Dr. Giovannini and the whole team are friendly and show your children that dental visits are nothing to fear! With children, we work at a slower pace and explain everything in kid-friendly terms so that kids understand. Positive dental experiences in kids’ formative years encourage kids to maintain their oral health throughout adulthood.
