Do Veneers Make Teeth Look Bigger?

Dental veneers transform your smile and fix issues like chips, cracks, and stains. Dr. Michael Giovannini specializes in veneers, so if you want a movie-star smile, they’re a great option. What’s the process of getting veneers? Do they make your teeth look bigger?

Getting Veneers

The first step in the process is making sure you’re a good candidate for veneers. These porcelain shells need to bond to healthy teeth. If you have severe decay or your teeth are too weak, we won’t recommend veneers. Assuming you are a good candidate, the first step is preparing your teeth. After a local anesthetic, we’ll shape and trim the enamel of the teeth we’re fitting with veneers. Thanks to this trimming, veneers will not make your teeth look bulkier.

After your teeth are ready, Dr. Giovannini will take impressions. An outside dental lab creates your veneers and sends them back to our office. At your final appointment, we’ll bond the veneers and adjust the fit as needed.

Benefits of veneers

Veneers can resolve many problems, such as:

  • Deeply-stained teeth
  • Short and uneven teeth
  • Worn enamel
  • Overlapping teeth
  • Cracked and chipped teeth
  • Veneers are permanent and last between 10-15 years with proper care. Brush and floss as usual, and be sure to keep up with dental checkups every six months. Because porcelain is stain-resistant, you can eat and drink what you want! Be careful with hard foods since biting down on them can cause damage to your veneers.
